The Butler Did It Catering Co. was founded in 1994 by three young, enthusiastic entrepreneurs: Darryl Ray, Jamie, and Erin Avantini. Each partner brought knowledge from the different aspects of the Food & Beverage industry. Darryl and Erin worked together at The Brockhouse Restaurant on the West Side of Vancouver perfecting their front of house service, while Jamie was a Chef at the Westin Bayshore. It was during this time – while they were beginning to do some freelance off-premise catering – that they came across a faltering catering/food product business for sale. Soon enough with their profits, support of friends and family, and a minimally equipped 450 sq. foot kitchen, they were off and cooking!
By 1996, The Butler Did It Catering Co. had built a healthy customer base and had vastly outgrown their little starter kitchen. Darryl began the long and exhaustive search for a new location that would eventually include a café. Out of the blue, a brochure arrived in the mail offering an ideal commercial kitchen with a 16-seat café for lease in Kitsilano. It was perfect. They moved into the premises in May, renovated, and opened for business in June of 1997. Over the 7 years in that location they nurtured a growing loyal catering clientele, and developed a great rapport with their neighbourhood by offering a consistent variety of healthy, delicious food.
By early 2004 they had out-grown their location and needed to expand once again. They found a wonderful location on 2nd Avenue at Cambie Street. After months of renovations they opened the doors of the new 6400 square foot catering operation. With a 49-seat 1000 square foot restaurant, brand new 3000 square foot kitchen, and bright 2400 square foot office space.
Late in the year 2008 the company was awarded a large contract with the Olympic Broadcasting Services for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics. This project entailed 2 years of planning, 30,000 meals served at 6 different locations over a 3 week period. Their experience with the Olympic Broadcasting service is a prime example of successfully partnering with a world-class operation and organizing an extremely complicated project with successful execution and completion.
After being put under the Olympic microscope for 2 years, The Butler Did It Catering Co. is a company that looks forward to challenges instead of avoiding them. This venture allowed them the opportunity to purchase a 12,200 square foot building in Vancouver. They renovated the space and moved in February 2012.
The Butler Did It Catering Co. has earned a reputation as one of Vancouver’s premier caterers by offering consistent reliable service, and high quality food with a sense of style and flair – all at a reasonable price.
